Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 31, 2026
Overview
Vidi ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Vidi handles your information when you use our iOS and iPadOS application.
Data Collection and Storage
Vidi does not collect or store any personally identifiable information. Your media files, file names, folder names, and connection details are never transmitted to our servers.
Information Stored Locally
Everything Vidi knows about your media stays on your device:
- SMB Server Credentials: Server addresses, usernames, passwords, and domain information for your network connections, stored in the iOS Keychain
- Connection Settings: Saved connection names and share settings
- Your Library Index: The names, folders, sizes, and dates of the media files on your shares, plus artwork and descriptions fetched for recognized movies and shows
- Caches and Downloads: Thumbnails, recently viewed images, portions of recently played videos held for instant seeking, and any files you download for offline playback
- Playback State: Resume positions and watched marks, kept on this device only
Vidi does not sync any of this to any cloud service, and none of it is sent to us. Removing a connection deletes its credentials and library data; deleting the app removes everything.
Anonymous Usage Analytics
To understand how Vidi is used and where it breaks, the app reports anonymous usage events to an analytics service that we host ourselves. There is no third-party analytics or advertising SDK in the app.
What we collect:
- Coarse app events (for example: "a video was played", "a folder was opened", "a connection failed") with only category-level detail, never any content or file information
- App version, iOS version, device model class, and interface language
- An approximate location — country, region, and city — that our analytics server derives from your IP address when the event arrives. The app itself never reads or sends your location, and the IP address is not stored.
What we do NOT collect:
- Any identifier for you or your device — the app generates none, and events cannot be tied to a person or an install
- File, folder, server, or share names, paths, or search terms
- Server addresses, usernames, or passwords
- Your precise location, and no location data from the device itself — only the approximate, city-level estimate described above.
Because this data is anonymous, there is nothing to opt out of or request deletion for; it cannot be linked back to you.
Data Security
All sensitive information (passwords and credentials) is stored in the iOS Keychain, which is encrypted and protected by iOS. Credentials are cleared from memory when the app goes to the background.
Network Communication
Vidi communicates directly with your SMB servers. Your media, and the names of your files and folders, never pass through our servers or any cloud service. All streaming happens directly between your device and your configured SMB servers.
To show posters, artwork, and descriptions for movies and TV shows, the app looks up the title (and year, where present) of recognized items with The Movie Database (TMDB). Only the title as recognized from the file name is sent — never file paths, server details, or anything about you. Photos and home videos are never looked up anywhere.
Third-Party Services
Vidi does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app communicates with:
- SMB servers you explicitly configure
- The Movie Database (TMDB) for movie and TV show artwork and descriptions, as described above. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- Our configuration server (api.vidi.club) to fetch remote app settings; this request carries no information about you
- Our self-hosted analytics service for the anonymous usage events described above
Permissions
Vidi requests the following iOS permissions:
- Local Network Access: Required to discover and connect to your SMB servers
- Local Storage: Used for your library index, thumbnails, playback caches, and downloads
Data Deletion
You can delete all stored data at any time by:
- Deleting individual connections in the app, which removes their credentials and library data
- Uninstalling the app, which removes all data from your device
Children's Privacy
Vidi does not knowingly collect any information from children. The app is designed for general audiences and does not collect personal information from any users.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Summary
In short: Vidi is a privacy-focused app with no accounts and no cloud. Your media streams directly from your SMB servers to your device; only movie and show titles are looked up (with TMDB) for artwork; and the only thing we receive is anonymous, identifier-free usage statistics. Your content stays private and secure.
